When he does so, the film is sure to be a big blockbuster and ‘Sivaji - The Boss’ could be the best illustration. However, even that film had dashed down every hopes of a distributor. But now, we have the same Abhirami Ramanathan buying the city rights of ‘Kanthasamy’ for around 4.5 Crores. Speaking on this Ramanathan, ‘ I haven’t seen such a splendid film in the recent times. Not alone the grandeur, but loaded with more appealing factors the film is sure to get on for a grand opening across the masses’.

Earlier, plans were to launch audio for the film by Jan 31, but now has been postponed and film will the hit the screens on May 1

Comedy King Nagesh passes away

February 1st, 2009 ratha78 Posted in tamil Movie news | 1 Comment »

One of the greatest comedians of all times in Indian cinema Nagesh, died today morning (Jan 31) due to old age and prolonged illness. The 71 year old doyen of comedy in Tamil cinema was born as Gundu Rao to Kannada speaking Brahmin Madhwa parents.

Nagesh, a stellar comedian

Even today the name evokes a mixed response in the minds of Tamil filmgoers, not just as a comedian who had them rolling in the aisles, but also as a character artiste who moved them to tears with his sensitive performance in films like Thiruvilayadal, Server Sundaram, Neer Kumizhi, Edhir Neechal and 1000odd films.

Wikipedia tells us - He came to the then Madras as a runaway stayed at a house in West Mambalam (then a remote area) with lyricist Vaali and veteran actor Srikanth and also got a job in Railways.

One day, he saw a Tamil play ‘Kambar Ramayanam’ enacted by his colleagues, and beacame hooked to the stage. He persuaded the secretary of the Railways cultural association to give him the role of a man suffering from stomach pain.

MGR, then chief guest, seeing this play, in his speech praised Nagesh for his performance. It was the beginning of Nagesh the comedian who played small roles in various drama troupes and kept himself busy.
Pay your homage to Nagesh

It was producer K.Balaji who spotted him and gave him his first break in films. The most memorable performance of Nagesh out of the 1000 odd films he has acted in is his role in Thiruvilayaadal in which he speaks a soliloquy which is one of the most memorable scenes in the film.

He played a poet falling on bad times in the film. When Sivaji who played Siva in the film saw it, he asked the director to retain it in full without a cut!

Recently, our officials had analyzed from women audiences of all centres from multiplexes till local-single screened theatres. Of course, we had to believe the statements that their all-time favourite is yesteryear actress Late Silk Smitha.

She was the only actress in the history of Tamil Cinema who has won appreciations from women audiences. Any idea about who do they consider to be the worst actress right now?

It’s none other than ‘Nayanthara’. Well, their comments are more commendable as those are the real facts … ‘She has lost her good looks and showcases her with an underrated performance’…

1.    Kadhalna Summa illa - Wondering why so? Not a big flick with superstars on title cards and still it gratified to the tastes of audiences across all centres. A cool journey for couple of hours that makes you feel worth watching for the pennies paid. Actor Ravi Krishna does a decent job and debutant Sarvanand deserves the same pat.

2.    Villu - Vijay’s performance is top-notching, but the last 30mins of the flick scatters everyone’s attention with annoying factors. Nayanthara has signs of spelling a matured performance. Prabhu Deva fails to deliver the same show he did with ‘Pokkiri’.

3.    Padikadhavan - Though multiplex audiences have no idea about turning for this film, it’s doing well amongst B and C centres. Wanna watch this film? Leave your cognizance outside the theatres and don’t look out for logics.

4.    Abhiyum Naanum - Why the film fails to pick anyone’s interest is that it has got ‘Too-sweet features’. Radha Mohan hasn’t penned any twists and turns or obstacles faced by the protagonist. Moreover, the film is a remake of Hollywood film ‘Father of the Bride’.

5.    Poo - Though not doing extremely well at box office, the film has won critical acclaims for everyone involved with this. A bedazing debut by Parvathi and she is sure to bag the best awards. Srikanth underplaying his character gets him deserved of special pat.
